237,000 private sector jobs added in August

ADP Jobs Report Highlights:

The U.S. economy added 237,000 jobs from July to August according to the ADP National Employment Report.  According to the report, small businesses added around 48,000 jobs with firms with fewer than 19 employees adding 18,000 positions. "In August the goods-producing sector saw the best performance in months" said Ahu Yildirmaz of ADP.   Trade/transportation/utilities pulled into the top position with 56,000, the most the sector has seen since the end of 2016.  The Information sector shed roughly 3,000 jobs in August.   

Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody's Analytics, said, "The job market continues to power forward. Job creation is strong across nearly all industries, company sizes."

Small businesses added 48,000 jobs in August with 18,000 coming from very small companies with 19 or fewer employees. Most of the jobs are in the services sector. .

Large businesses with 500 or more employees added the most in terms of total new jobs with 115,000 and mid-sized firms, companies with 50 - 499 employees added 74,000 jobs.
